Ottica Priarone was founded in the early post-war period when Giovanni Priarone started his first business in Olbia in 1948. His family had previously moved to Genoa, where Giovanni spent his childhood and had his first contact with the world of optics at just 12 years old. The sudden death of his father in 1928 led him to work as an apprentice in an old Ligurian optician's shop to help his family. It was an experience that marked his life, allowing him to learn the secrets of the trade for which he developed a strong passion, ultimately leading him to obtain his diploma in Optics from the University of Genoa.
With his heart always turned towards his homeland, once he returned from the front, Giovanni opened the shop on Via Cavour, one of the "viette" in the historic centre.
The city of Olbia experienced a slow economic recovery in the early post-war years, which allowed Giovanni to open a second shop in the more populated Sassari in 1955. For around twenty years, he commuted to manage the new business, while his wife Elena oversaw the optical centre in Olbia.
It was only in 1974 that Giovanni was able to devote himself exclusively to the Olbia shop, entrusting the management of the Sassari business to his son Paolo, who had just obtained his diploma in Optics from the Institute for Research and Studies in Optics and Optometry of Vinci (IRSOO).
In 1990, Paolo decided to sell the optical centre in Sassari to dedicate himself entirely to the one in Olbia. Here, the customer base has significantly expanded over the past decades, with additional and equally excellent optical centres established alongside the historic shop in Piazza Regina Margherita. These are located at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, the Eccelsa General Aviation terminal dedicated to private aviation, the “Terranova” shopping centre, and the renowned tourist hub of Porto Rotondo.
Today, Ottica Priarone has reached its third generation of opticians, with Gianni graduating in 2008 and Andrea in 2013, becoming a reference point for its numerous clients, thanks also to a well-trained staff always attentive to the diverse visual needs of each customer.
